Gloom and Doom...???

I usually don’t pay attention to msn.com news because it’s all under a liberal bias. The only reason I go to their site is because it’s easier to check the stock market on their homepage, and you don’t have to click a link to see them. However, I did notice something that really kind of got on my nerves. Keep in mind that things aren’t nearly as bad as the media would love for you to believe. They’re feeding this recession and making it much worse than it really is.

Well here goes. The name of a headline on msn.com read “Even those with jobs are cutting back”. That phrase alone seems to indicate that most of American’s don’t have jobs, which is absurd. Yes, many Americans are hurting, and yes many have lost their jobs in the last couple of months. The news media wants you to believe that we’re not in a recession, but a depression, which is simply not true. I’ll be the first to admit that the economy is hurting right now, but it could be worse. In a depression, employment is 25%, right now, it’s at 6.7%. There’s a huge difference between those two numbers. One in four Americans were out of a job in the great depression. Right now not even seven out of every 100 are out of a job, so things could be a lot worse.

The big three are getting at least some of the funds that they need to fix their problems. I’m not sure how this is going to work, but a complete reform and restructuring are needed for each of these three companies. Personally, I think the CEOs who got them into this mess to begin with should be fired. As I have written before, they didn’t market their vehicles properly. They didn’t make enough fuel efficient cars to begin with, and then they continued to mass produce trucks and SUVs that weren’t selling! If I’m working at a company I want a leader and a boss who has more intelligence than that! Another huge reason for the problem they’re in is the labor union. Many of the people in big three are making $70-$80 an hour, and the companies therefore have to raise the prices of their products! Now I’m not against by any means telling someone how much they could pay their employees. I have nothing against the fact that these CEOs are rich, I just have a problem with their lack of common sense. If you want to pay that much to your workers, that’s fine with me, I couldn’t care less, but don’t expect me to pay for it when I’m shopping for a car. As a libertarian, I understand that the majority of the rich in this country got where they are through their hard work, and I respect them for it. And if these companies want to pay extremely high wages, who am I to say that they shouldn’t? Look where it got them though.

So now that the big three are going to have a chance to change their business model, and if the government does what they intended to do with the $700 billion, maybe we will soon see a turnaround. Don’t expect to hear that on the news though. The MSNBCs, CNBCs, CNNs and the local news stations want you to be terrified and part of it is so that they can blame the failing economy on George Bush. The truth is that a failing economy occurs when people don’t spend money. The definition of a recession is 6 months when retail reports a loss instead of a gain. When people hear the word recession, they panic and don’t spend money, which causes recessions, and can extend them and make them worse! My advice to the majority of people who aren’t directly affected by the recession is to do what you normally would do and live the way you usually live! Actually, spend more money than usual because businesses are hurting now and have lowered their prices! If you are looking to buy a car, house, or other expensive item of some type, and you have good credit, there has never been a better time to buy! Not only do you get a good deal on whatever it is that you want, you also do your part to improve the economy!

I listen to talk radio everyday to get the news, and on many shows have heard experts talking about the economy. When asked if they think that the U.S will soon see another great depression, an overwhelming majority of them say absolutely not. That leads me to believe that the media is very selective on what they report. Think about this for a second. When was the last time you really heard any good news in the media? I’m not talking about the tabloids because Britney Spears’ eighth wedding ceremony is not real news. I’m talking about any news station that actually reports any good news. Granted, FOX does better than anybody, but other than them I can’t think of any off the top of my head. Think about the previews that you always see for the local news. “What are your kids really learning in public schools? Tune in at News 14 at 11:00 to find out!” Their defense would be that they were trying to inform and warn you about things. The truth is though that they’re actually trying to make you afraid. Good news doesn’t sell; bad news that is “informative” does.

An event that occurred yesterday in San Diego California is proof of the media’s negativity. A military jet crashed in a neighborhood in San Diego, and destroyed four homes, and killed 3 people, and one is still missing. Of course it’s sad that 3, maybe 4, people lost their lives, but think about how much worse it could’ve been! What if that had happened in the evening when everyone was home, then we could have 15-20 people who were killed. The media probably isn’t picking up on that. Of course we mourn and pray for the people who were affected by it and who lost their lives and their homes. But the fact is that it could have been much worse than it really was, and we should be thankful that it wasn’t! Everyone thinks that the world is getting worse and worse, and in many ways it is. However, we have more avenues to get the news, such as the internet and more news channels, and as I have pointed out, they only report the bad news. So maybe things aren’t as bad as we think, maybe we’re just hearing that it is from the growing media outlets. Maybe we shouldn’t listen to all the gloom and doom that we’re led to believe we’re dealing with.

Ignorance is Ignorance, Not Bliss!!

Why do you believe what you believe? If you are a conservative, why is that? If you are a liberal, give me a reason. If you voted for McCain, what reasons do you have? If you voted for Obama, what was your motivation? If you go to church, what is it that makes you believe what is being taught there? Don’t go away; allow me to explain why I’m asking these questions.

Many people in this nation only believe the things that they have been taught to believe, whether it relates to politics, religion, among many other subjects. For most people, their parents are the ones that have taught them to have these beliefs. I have had many friends who I disagree with on many different subjects. I’m perfectly fine with disagreeing with someone if their defense for those beliefs is something more convincing than “my mom and dad told me so”. Don’t get me wrong, because I understand someone wanting to trust their parents. If you can’t trust your parents, who can you trust? The point is though, that no parent has ever been right about everything, and our youth need to be encouraged to find out things for themselves.

Personally, I have a lot of disagreements with a lot of people in my life when it relates to religion, politics and other issues, and that’s okay. I was raised to believe certain things that, after I looked at them for myself, I found that I strongly disagree with. It doesn’t mean I respect these people any less than I ever have, it simply means that I have a differing opinion on certain issues than they do, and there is nothing wrong with that. My best friend and I have a lot of opposing views, but he’s still my best friend.

In my profile on this blog, I mentioned that I am annoyed by blatant and outspoken ignorance as it insults this nation and its founders. What that means is that I’m annoyed when people talk about things that they really know nothing about. I’ll use George Bush as an example, because he is the most disrespected president in recent history. Many people think that gas prices were so high because Bush at one time partially owned an oil company. So a partial owner of one company can set the price of a product that is sold by hundreds of other companies? Man I need to go buy stock in Wal-Mart so I can set the price of a Playstation 3 to $5.00! The president doesn’t control gas prices! Supply, demand, and OPEC do! These people have absolutely no evidence of their claims; they are conspiracy theorists, just like those who say that Bush was behind 9/11. Yes those people are still out there that believe that George Bush was the one who organized the attacks on September 11, 2001. All that they have are theories though, and will never have any true evidence, because they’re built on ignorance!

My point is that you are going to have strong opinions, no matter which side of the aisle you are on, have a reason for those beliefs. Find out if your beliefs could be proven wrong by real facts. Watch the news, listen to talk radio, read the news on the internet. If you have strong religious beliefs, read the Bible to see if your beliefs be proven right or wrong according to the Word of God! The upcoming generation is the most uninformed generation in our nation’s history. The sad, but ironic part of that is that we have more opportunities to keep up with current events and we simply don’t. The younger generation, the future of this country would rather pay attention to Paris Hilton and her blonde moments than the real news.

It happens on both sides of the fence, Republican and Democrat, but much more on the liberal side. There have been interviews, one in particular, of Obama supporters, as well as McCain supporters, where questions regarding our congress and politics in general were asked. There were 13 questions on this poll, one of which asked which party held the control of the congress. Only 18% of the Obama supporters answered 10 out of the 13 questions correctly. One of those supporters said “Well probably the Republicans because the president’s a Republican. That’s my honest answer”. That’s honestly a stupid answer! I’ll be the first to admit that the media is unfairly biased and is a huge part of the reason Obama won the election. They didn’t cover it fairly. Proof of that was found in this interview, because all of those people who didn’t know who had control of the congress knew everything there was to know about Sarah Palin! However, it’s not all that difficult to look up the facts to see who is in control of the congress. All that you have to do is go and do a google search! It’s not that difficult, so as biased as the media is, there is no excuse for not knowing simple facts. Granted that only 35% of McCain supporters got at least 10 out of the 13 questions correct, that’s still almost double the percentage of Obama supporters. Both sides need to educate themselves more!

My point is not that you should be a Republican, Democrat, Christian, Scientologist or any other type of person. Obviously, I am a conservative and am a Christian, and as a Christian, I would happily welcome you to consider becoming one as well. But if you are a Democrat, an Atheist, what reasons do you have? I ask that question, just as I ask conservatives what specific reasons they had for voting for McCain, or why Christians go to church on Sunday instead of Thursday or Friday, just to see how much they know about their own beliefs. Voting for a Republican because of their party without knowing anything about them is just as bad as voting for Obama for “change”. My personal recommendation is to listen to Mike McConnell on 700 WLW. He’s a conservative, but tells it like it is. In other word’s, he usually sides with the Republican Party, but will point out when they’re wrong, and he’s a very good and entertaining broadcaster. Wouldn’t you rather get your news from a credible source instead of Jon Stewart or David Letterman? I would!

The Race Issue...GET OVER IT!!!

If you go to youtube and watch any political videos against Obama, many of them are used by the liberals to name conservatives racists. None of these videos in any way shape or form hint of racism. That, however, brings me to my entire point today. I will admit that there are still some white people that are racist. There are those “rednecks” and old school idiots that use the N word to refer to blacks, but the number of white racists is strongly declining. There will never be a day when there isn’t at least a small percentage of racists on either side. We are living in 2008 though, not 1968, and believe it or not, things are getting better. In this article, I would like to explore the other side of the aisle and show how racism exists today, but on the opposite side.

So a lot of African Americans want an apology for slavery. Obviously, we all know that slavery is wrong, but it didn’t’ exist in any of our lifetimes. That doesn’t only mean that we weren’t responsible for slavery, it also means that blacks today aren’t affected by it. I’m tired of feeling bad for something that happened a century ago that I had nothing to do with, don’t condone, and I’m also sick of the fact that the people complaining about it weren’t even affected by it. This proves that some blacks are using events that occurred 100 years ago as a crutch.

Believe it or not, it is possible to disagree with Obama’s politics. If you have read any of my articles, I have given you plenty of reasons to disagree with Obama. Many of you may remember when Bill Cunningham made national headlines by warming up a crowd at a McCain rally in Cincinnati. If you look on youtube, several people have that video listed as “racist comments made by a McCain supporter”. If you watch the video, nothing that he refers to is racial at all. All that he does is tell the truth about Obama’s associations, and uses his middle name, which is Hussein, just as he does with plenty of other people on his show. For example, he refers to Bill Clinton as William Jefferson Clinton, and Calls President Bush George Walker Bush. That’s simply how he talks, but it’s more beneficial for the minorities to cry racism. Ignorance is so convenient in cases such as this because you cannot say anything against minorities without getting named a racist, when you simply disagree with them.

In our nation, 70% of black children are born out of wedlock. That’s right! 70% of black babies have a father who is nowhere to be found. That is a fact. It’s not something I made up, it’s not a rumor or opinion, it’s a factual statistic, and I’m not a racist for pointing it out! It’s frustrating that anytime you mention a true statistic, and it affects a minority group, especially blacks, you are named a racist. I am in no way, shape, or form a racist. I have plenty of black friends, as well as other ethnic groups. I don’t look at someone and judge them, because I would hope that those same people wouldn’t look at me and judge me.

Why was it perfectly fine that 90% of blacks voted for Obama? If 90% of whites had voted for McCain, that 90%, including the entire Republican Party, would have been named bigots! I used to think a lot of Colin Powell, until he endorsed Obama. A true republican who claimed to be a friend of John McCain publicly supported Obama, for what reason? I know only of one thing they have in common! Why is it that blacks can call whites “Crackers”? If we use any racial slurs we are reprimanded immediately! I think that just as we have the N word, that we should also have the C word! Why is it ok that African Americans have “Black Entertainment Television? Try to start the network “White Entertainment Television” and see what happens. What about the “United Negro College Fund”? Why can’t we have the “United Caucasian College Fund? Why is one not considered bigotry but the other one is? I could continue with examples, but I’m sure you get the point.

The two most racist people in this nation that are widely known are Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton! Although not alone, these two look for racism and will grab at any straws they can to make whites look like racists. They believe that they have to look for it because racism today is “hidden”. I’ve made this point before and I’m going to make it again. These two, along with their friends, in all reality didn’t want Barack Obama to win the election. Now that Obama will be the next president, Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson have no credibility and nobody should ever listen to them making false claims again! I read somewhere today that a commentator was complaining that less than 1% of college football coaches are black. The first point I would like to reference is the percentage of players in the NFL that are black. Second of all, the word minority means that there are fewer in their population. In other words, of course there are fewer black coaches because there are fewer black people!

Affirmative action is discrimination in itself, and instead of enforcing it, the government should be outlawing it! If I am the best person for a particular job, then I should receive it. If I’m not the best person for the job, then whoever is the most qualified should get it. Believe it or not, it’s that simple. Getting a job should not depend on what race, color, gender, or age you are. It should depend ONLY on your qualifications. The truth of the matter is that affirmative action doesn’t do minorities any good either. When minorities who aren’t the most qualified receive jobs because of affirmative action, it makes the people that deserved the job angry, and gives minorities as a whole a bad reputation.

I’m not against any minority groups at all. I’m simply saying that as things are getting better and as the generation that for years were the most prejudiced is fading away, it’s time to accept it. Of course there will always be at least a small number of people in every ethnic group that are bigots, and that will never change. However, the very fact that we now have a black president proves that times are changing, and I expect others in all walks of life and in all ethnic groups to realize that. My suggestion is to look at each situation logically. If you are in the minority and you are fired from your job, or if someone disagrees with something you say, don’t automatically assume that it was due to the color of your skin. That in itself is racism, and only makes things worse. My point…can’t we all just get along?
